Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls for each player
  • Cones to mark the practice area
Setup
  1. Area: 22x22 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 1 red outfield player (minimum, scalable to more) starts with a ball inside the area, spaced freely to allow movement
  3. Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 22x22 yard area, 1 ball per player
Instructions
  1. Players dribble their ball forward.
  2. Fake a kick with the instep and instead pull the ball back with the inside of the foot behind the standing leg.
  3. Turn 180 degrees to face the opposite direction.
  4. Follow the different stages: start with a stationary ball, then increase speed, combine with other moves, and finally adapt to game-like scenarios.
  5. Encourage use of both dominant and non-dominant feet.
Coaching Points
  • Accelerate after the turn
  • Maintain close ball control
  • Use disguise to deceive opponents
  • Keep head up for better awareness
  • Emphasize technique and speed
  • Ensure timing of the move is precise
  • Keep knees slightly bent
  • Develop fluency and mastery of the move
  • Alternate between different ball manipulation techniques
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed and intensity of the move.
2. Introduce more complex combinations of skills in succession.
3. Limit the time available to change direction.
4. Use obstacles to navigate through while executing the turn.
Make it easier:
1. Slow down the pace, allowing players to execute the move without pressure.
2. Practice the move without a ball to focus on body mechanics.
3. Pair players to provide guidance and feedback to each other.
