- Cones for marking the practice area
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 1 player with a ball, spaced evenly within the grid
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area, 1 ball per player
Instructions
- Players start with the ball stationary in front of them.
- Step behind the ball, preparing to take it with the outside of one foot.
- Move the stepping foot around the front of the ball and continue with the outside of the other foot.
- Progress through different stages by increasing speed, incorporating other ball moves, and applying it in game situations.
- Rehearse using both dominant and non-dominant feet as players advance.
Coaching Points
- Maintain acceleration and close ball control.
- Use disguise to trick opponents.
- Keep head up to enhance spatial awareness.
- Adopt a positive mindset and sharp technique.
- Enhance speed and ensure accurate timing of steps.
- Bend knees slightly for better balance.
- Gradually increase the move's fluency and speed.
- Focus on perfecting various ball manipulation techniques.
- Monitor progress and adjust stages 1-5 accordingly.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Incorporate additional moves after the step-over.
2. Require players to execute with minimal glances at the ball.
3. Increase speed and complexity by changing moves on command.
Make it easier:
1. Start with a completely stationary ball for better control.
2. Allow walking pace movements initially.
3. Use dominant foot only for increased familiarity.
