Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Ball
  • Goal
Setup
  1. Area: Just outside the 18-yard box
  2. Goals: One large goal on the goal line facing the box
  3. Group: 2 outfield players start just outside the 18-yard box, one facing the goal and the other standing directly behind them facing away from goal
  4. Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line
  5. Equipment: 1 ball
Instructions
  1. The player facing the goal yells "turn" as they pass the ball.
  2. The receiving player turns and shoots at goal immediately.
  3. Encourage rapid passing to mimic game conditions.
  4. The goalkeeper must react quickly to the turn, positioning themselves for the shot.
  5. After each shot, players switch roles and repeat the process.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain a balanced set position with weight forward.
  • Utilize correct technique and decide on actions quickly.
  • Increase intensity and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Always anticipate a shot, covering angles effectively.
  • Build confidence in 1v1 scenarios, reacting swiftly.
  • Analyze the angle and distance of the attacker.
  • Watch and assess the flight and pace of the ball.
  • Use proper footwork to close down and narrow angles.
  • Focus on performing effective diving saves.
  • Ensure the goalkeeper remains light on their feet and organized.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the distance between the two players to increase pressure on the shooter.
2. Allow the goalkeeper to start further out to practice closing down quickly.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the distance between players to allow more time for decision-making.
2. Permit multiple touches before shooting to build confidence.
3. Simplify by slowing down the passing tempo.
