Equipment
- Balls (at least 6)
- 2 Small goals with goalkeepers
- Cones to mark the 40x35-yard area and halfway line
Setup
- Area: 40x35 yard area marked with cones, including a halfway line
- Goals: One small goal at each end of the area, slightly recessed
- Team Red: 4 red defenders, split 2 in each half of the area
- Team Blue: 8 blue outfield players in two groups of 4, both lined up on the halfway line, each group starting with a ball
- Team Blue GK: 2 yellow goalkeepers, one on the goal line at each end
- Equipment: At least 6 balls scattered around the area and labelled numerically, cones marking the 40x35-yard area and the halfway line
Instructions
- Start with Blue and Purple teams attacking from the halfway line.
- Attackers begin once possession is taken with the first touch.
- Defenders aim to intercept and clear the ball out of play.
- If one attacking team's play is stopped, the opposing team continues their attack.
- Rotate the starting ball location as called by the coach to simulate varied pressure.
- Attackers must adapt and find the optimal angle and passing opportunity.
- Encourage quick execution of shots when in scoring positions.
Coaching Points
- Maintain effective communication throughout the play.
- Establish good support angles and appropriate distances.
- Make quick and intelligent decisions with and without the ball.
- Utilize a quality first touch.
- Keep your head up for awareness.
- Execute assertive movements off the ball.
- Ensure passes are accurate with well-timed delivery.
- Support the ball carrier rapidly.
- Be strategic in pass selection and ensure productive conclusion.
- Move cleverly to unsettle defenders.
- Apply the correct weight to passes.
- Act swiftly when in striking position.
- Central attacks should compress defensive lines.
- Provide constructive feedback swiftly and use different vantage points for better insights.
- Monitor teamwork development and decision-making accuracy.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce space to 35x30 yards for tighter pressure.
2. Limit attackers to two touches to increase decision speed.
Make it easier:
1. Allow attackers unlimited touches to foster control.
2. Remove one defender to lessen defensive pressure.
3. Increase the playing area to provide more space.
