Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- Cones for grid and corner squares
- Balls to represent 'gold'
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard grid marked with cones, with an additional 2x2 yard square marked with cones in each of the 4 corners
- Goals: None
- Group: 4 teams of 1 player each start in their own assigned 2x2 yard corner square, one team per corner
- Equipment: Cones marking the 20x20 yard grid and a 2x2 yard square in each corner, several balls placed in the center of the grid to represent gold
Instructions
- Players from each team take turns to run to the center, collect a ball, and dribble it back to their corner without collision.
- Once all balls are taken from the center, teams can 'steal' balls from other teams' corners.
- The team with the most balls in their corner after a set time wins.
- Add complexity by requiring players to perform a skill move like juggling, foot taps, or stepovers before returning.
Coaching Points
- Ensure players stay hydrated and take regular water breaks.
- Encourage constant communication among teammates.
- Monitor dribbling skills, focusing on first touch and control.
- Increase the intensity gradually to match session progress.
- Make the activity engaging and relevant to the main session goals.
- Emphasize proper warm-up routines to prepare physically and mentally.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the grid to enhance dribbling difficulty.
2. Add defenders who can intercept during ball retrieval.
3. Require additional skill moves before returning the ball.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the grid to allow easier dribbling.
2. Allow static defenders to offer less pressure when intercepting.
3. Reduce the number of skill moves required before returning to the start.
