Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls (one per player initially, then for half the players)
  • Cones (25x25 yard area and 1-yard cone gates)
Setup
  1. Area: 25x25 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 1 player starts inside the area with a ball
  3. Equipment: Cones marking the 25x25 yard boundary, multiple 1-yard wide cone gates placed randomly within the area, 1 ball per player initially with balls later removed from half the players.
Instructions
  1. Players dribble toward any gate and turn to continue dribbling into open space.
  2. Progress to passing the ball through gates, running onto the ball, and continuing to dribble.
  3. Once warmed, half the players jog without a ball while others jog with a ball.
  4. Players without a ball approach those with a ball to perform a volley/half-volley/header or similar action.
  5. Change pace after moving through a gate, then seek out another ball to continue.
  6. Rotate roles regularly to ensure even participation.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage regular hydration during warm-ups.
  • Prioritize effective communication among players.
  • Gradually increase activity intensity to boost heart rate and muscle warmth.
  • Observe players closely—focus on first touch, body language, and attention.
  • Begin with gradual movements, ensuring progressive warm-ups.
  • Make warm-ups fun and connected to main training.
  • Promote smooth movements and attentiveness to receiving the ball.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of gates to navigate for added complexity.
2. Reduce space to increase dribbling difficulty and crowd control.
Make it easier:
1. Widen the gates for smoother ball passage.
2. Increase the playing area to reduce congestion.
