Equipment
- Cones for marking the playing area
- 12 Cones to create 6 gates
- Footballs, one for each player
Setup
- Area: 50x50 yard area marked with cones
- Team Red: 4 red outfield players start on one side of the playing area, each with a ball
- Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start on the opposite side of the playing area, each with a ball
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 50x50 yard playing area, plus 12 cones forming 6 randomly placed 2-yard wide gates within the area
Instructions
- Teams aim to dribble the ball through as many gates as possible.
- Players should accelerate toward gates while maintaining control.
- Communicate with teammates to coordinate movements and find the best paths through the gates.
- Track the number of gates each team successfully passes through.
Coaching Points
- Use laces for dribbling to maintain speed and control.
- Communicate clearly with teammates to exploit open gates.
- Accelerate to cover ground quickly while keeping your head up.
- Use minimal touches to maintain stride and momentum.
- Focus on a good first touch to set up a forward run.
- Recognize when to run versus when to pass.
- Develop spatial awareness to exploit open space.
- Encourage a positive attitude towards attacking space.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Increase the number of gates to navigate.
3. Add a time limit to intensify the pace.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area for more space.
2. Reduce the number of gates to focus on control.
3. Allow teams to pass through the same gate multiple times.
