Equipment
- Full-size goal
- Supply of balls
Setup
- Area: Full pitch
- Goals: One full-size goal at one end of the pitch
- Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line, standing sideways facing one goalpost
- Neutral: 1 black target player positioned 15 yards from the goal, off to one side for distribution
- Coach: 1 grey server positioned 20 yards in front of the goalkeeper with a supply of balls
- Equipment: Full-size goal; supply of balls at the server's position
Instructions
- The server calls for the goalkeeper to turn and face them.
- The server throws or kicks a ball at varying speeds and heights towards the goalkeeper.
- The goalkeeper must react quickly to make the save.
- Upon saving, the goalkeeper immediately distributes the ball to the target player.
- Alternate which post the goalkeeper faces after a set number of repetitions.
Coaching Points
- Quick reaction to server's call and ball direction
- Effective communication between server and goalkeeper
- Maintain balance and light feet positioning
- Accurate and timely distribution to target player
- Select appropriate distribution technique based on ball position
- Consistent assessment of movement during and after ball handling
- Maintain focus and readiness
- Enhance decision-making under varying conditions
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the pace and unpredictability of incoming balls.
2. Add a second server for diversified angles.
3. Increase the distance of the distribution target.
Make it easier:
1. Slow down the ball speed from the server.
2. Allow the goalkeeper to face the server directly at all times.
3. Use a smaller goal or reduce the target area for distribution.
