Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- Cones to mark the 25x25 playing area, gates, and corner squares
- Balls for each player in the attacking groups
- Bibs: blue for defenders, red and green for attackers
Setup
- Area: 25x25 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: Four 2-yard wide gates positioned at random points within the area
- Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players (attackers) start spaced evenly around the area, each holding a ball
- Team Red: 2 red outfield players (defenders) start centrally within the area
- Equipment: Cones marking the 25x25 area boundary, 4 corner cones marking 1-yard squares in each corner, 4 cones marking the 2-yard wide gates placed randomly within the area, 1 ball per attacking player
Instructions
- Attackers aim to throw the ball through one of the gates to a teammate.
- If defenders intercept, coordinate and aim to throw the ball into a corner square.
- After a set time, rotate the groups so attackers become defenders and vice versa.
Coaching Points
- Communicate effectively with teammates.
- Gradually increase intensity to warm up muscles.
- Allow time for players to hydrate regularly.
- Ensure fluid movements and look for open passes.
- Maintain a fun and relevant warm-up to the session.
- Foster active participation and communication.
- Develop good warm-up habits for optimal performance.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the size of the gates to enhance precision.
2. Add more defenders to increase the challenge for attackers.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the gates to simplify passing.
2. Reduce the number of defenders to lessen pressure on attackers.
