Equipment
- Balls for each attacker
- Cones for marking the playing area and gates
Setup
- Area: 30x20 yard area marked with cones
- Team Blue: 5 blue outfield players (attackers), each with a ball, start spaced evenly along one end of the area
- Team Red: 3 red outfield players (defenders) start positioned one at each gate inside the area
- Equipment: cones marking the 30x20 yard perimeter and 3 separate 5-yard gates spaced evenly across the area
Instructions
- Attackers dribble the ball and attempt to pass through as many gates as possible.
- Defenders guard the gates and try to prevent attackers from passing through.
- Attackers can dribble through either side of the gate.
- Rotate roles between attackers and defenders after the given time.
Coaching Points
- Maintain close control of the ball.
- Use disguise and quick changes of direction.
- Keep your head up to maintain awareness.
- Exploit open spaces and avoid defenders.
- Use speedy footwork and acceleration.
- Show a positive, attacking mindset.
- Implement a variety of dribbling techniques.
- Focus on body positioning and balance.
- Develop visual awareness to identify gaps.
- Adapt techniques like shielding, turning, and dribbling.
- Encourage creativity in getting past defenders.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Narrow the gates to increase difficulty.
2. Reduce the time limit for attackers.
3. Introduce an additional defender per gate.
Make it easier:
1. Widen the gates to make it easier.
2. Allow attackers more time to pass through the gates.
3. Decrease the number of defenders.
