Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls
  • Cones to mark the area
Setup
  1. Area: 33x16 yard area (30x15m grid) divided into two equal halves, marked with cones.
  2. Team Red: 2 red outfield players (defenders), one positioned on the middle line and one on the back line of the far half at the start.
  3. Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players (attackers) start on the starting end line in possession of the ball.
  4. Equipment: Cones marking the outer boundary and the halfway dividing line; balls for the attacking pair.
Instructions
  1. Attackers advance in a 2v1 situation, aiming to bypass the first defender.
  2. If successful, they attempt to stop the ball at the opposite end line to score.
  3. If a defender gains possession, they initiate a counter, turning the exercise into a 2v2 with supporting defender joining.
  4. On losing possession, attackers immediately transition to defense, trying to regain the ball.
  5. The defending pair, upon gaining possession and crossing into the opposite half, switches roles with the attackers.
Coaching Points
  • Execute dribble with laces for speed.
  • Minimize touches to maintain pace; avoid breaking stride.
  • Communicate constantly with your partner.
  • Attack space quickly.
  • Good first touch setting the ball forward.
  • Keep your head up to scan for opportunities.
  • Start with the furthest foot to gain immediate momentum.
  • Change angles on first touch to navigate defenders.
  • Be positive in exploiting developing spaces.
  • Choose techniques wisely based on space and defender positions.
  • Quickly identify and exploit open spaces as they arise.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease playing area to intensify pressure on attackers.
2. Designate time limits for attackers to reach the opposite end.
Make it easier:
1. Add a neutral player to aid the attacking team.
2. Widen playing area to give attackers more space.
