Equipment
- Cones for the grid and halfway mark
- Soccer balls
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard grid marked with cones and a marked halfway line
- Team Red: 2 red outfield players start in one defensive half of the grid
- Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players start in the opposite defensive half of the grid
- Neutral: 4 black neutral players — 2 target players, one positioned in each half, and 2 support players positioned on the center halfway line
- Equipment: cones marking the 20x20 grid and the halfway line, soccer balls for play
Instructions
- Teams must complete a minimum of two passes in their own half before advancing.
- After the passes, attack by moving the ball into the opposite zone.
- Collaborate to work the ball to the target player for a point.
- If successful, either retain possession and attack the alternate direction or reset with the opposition.
Coaching Points
- Maintain clear communication at all times.
- Create strong support angles and maintain optimal distances.
- Focus on a quality first touch.
- Keep your head up to assess options.
- Ensure dynamic movement off the ball.
- Deliver accurate and well-timed passes, incorporating disguise when beneficial.
- Select the best passing technique for each situation.
- Quickly support the player in possession.
- Keep passes on the ground.
- Prioritize forward passes when possible.
- Aim to break defensive lines with passes.
- Maintain ball movement to disrupt defenders.
- Observe from outside to identify improvements.
- Ensure players are consistently communicating.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Limit the number of touches per player.
2. Allow target players to roam, increasing movement demands.
3. Decrease the playing area to increase pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Remove the minimum pass requirement before attacking.
2. Grant additional touches per player.
3. Enlarge the playing area to reduce pressure.
