Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • * Balls
  • * Cones for marking zones
  • * Two goals
  • * Two goalkeepers
Setup
  1. Area: 25x20 yard area divided into three equal zones (defending, middle, attacking)
  2. Goals: One goal centred on each end line of the 25-yard length
  3. Team Red: 2 red outfield players start in the defending zone, one holding the ball ready to pass across to the middle zone
  4. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line at the defending end
  5. Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players start in the middle zone ready to receive the pass and attack the opposite goal
  6. Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line at the attacking end
  7. Equipment: Cones marking the 25x20 yard perimeter and the two internal lines dividing it into three equal zones, balls placed with the Red pair.
Instructions
  1. Start with a Red player passing the ball across to a Blue player in the middle zone.
  2. The Blue player receiving the ball takes their first touch into the attacking third.
  3. The Blue player without the ball performs an overlapping run to provide a passing option.
  4. The Blue players attack the goal, aiming to beat the two Red defenders and the goalkeeper.
  5. After a goal or defensive action, roles switch, and the Red team becomes the attackers in the opposite direction.
Coaching Points
  • Use effective support angles for better passing options.
  • Maintain close control over the ball during dribbles.
  • Communication is key for coordination between pairings.
  • Ensure quality in end product: pass, shoot, dribble or shield.
  • Encourage positive attitude towards attacking plays.
  • Utilize quick acceleration to gain an advantage.
  • Make decisive choices about when and where to dribble.
  • Focus on collaborative play between attacking pairs.
  • Promote fluidity and speed during moves.
  • Foster good spatial awareness and decision-making in high-pressure situations.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Add an additional defender to increase pressure on attackers.
2. Decrease the space of the playing area to challenge dribbling and passing under tight conditions.
3. Limit the number of touches attackers can take before attempting a goal.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area to allow more space for maneuvering.
2. Allow attackers an unlimited number of touches to build confidence.
3. Reduce the number of defenders for less pressure during attacks.
