Equipment
- - Balls
- - Cones (or markers)
- - Bibs (red, yellow, purple)
Setup
- Area: 25x20 yard area marked with cones, with four small target boxes marked in each corner.
- Team Red: 2 red outfield players start together in the middle of the area as the attacking pair.
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts in the middle of the area between the red pair as the defender.
- Neutral: 4 black target players, one positioned in each of the four corner target boxes.
- Equipment: Cones marking the 25x20 yard area boundary and the four corner target boxes.
Instructions
- The red pair must pass to all four purple target players, aiming for quick circulation.
- After passing to a target, the red pair receives the ball back and continues to another target.
- Each pair races to complete passes to all targets first.
- Rotate roles regularly to ensure balanced participation.
Coaching Points
- Maintain clear communication among teammates.
- Use effective movement to create space and receiving opportunities.
- Establish good support angles and distances.
- Make prompt decisions with and without the ball.
- Keep your head up to scan options.
- Deliver accurate, well-timed passes with possible disguise.
- Avoid forcing passes by ensuring continuous ball movement.
- Implement combination play with minimal touches.
- Balance passing to feet versus space as needed.
- Regularly change player roles to maintain engagement and learning.
- Encourage defenders to play realistically, enforcing a competitive environment.
- Promote quick, precise passes and movement off the ball.
- Observe from outside the grid to identify areas for improvement.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of defenders to 2v2.
2. Reduce the available space in which players operate.
3. Implement a one-touch passing rule for attackers.
Make it easier:
1. Remove the defender, allowing for focus on passing to corners.
2. Increase the size of the target boxes for easier connections.
3. Allow attackers more touches to maintain control and confidence.
