Equipment
- Markers for the 40x20 area
- Angled gates/goals x2 per group
- Balls for each player
- Markers for the triangular scoring area
Setup
- Area: 40x20 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: Two angled gates/goals set up within the area per group
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts at the front of the attacking line with a ball, facing the gates
- Team Red: 1 red defender starts positioned between the attacking line and the gates
- Equipment: Cones marking the 40x20 area, two angled gates per group, one ball per attacking player, markers forming a small triangular scoring area beyond each gate
Instructions
- Attackers run with the ball towards the gates.
- Aim to beat the defender and score by stopping the ball inside the triangular area.
- Rotate defenders periodically or after set durations.
Coaching Points
- Use the laces to control the ball.
- Maintain speed and rhythm with minimal touches.
- Keep your head up to observe space and opponents.
- Make a strong first touch to accelerate.
- Differentiate between dribbling and running with the ball.
- Use space effectively when no opponent is nearby.
- Encourage a positive mindset when exploiting space.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the space between gates.
2. Allow defender to defend more aggressively.
Make it easier:
1. Widen the gates for scoring.
2. Assign an additional attacker to create overloads.
3. Allow attackers a free touch start.
