Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Full-size goal
  • Multiple balls
Setup
  1. Goals: One full-size goal at one end
  2. Group: 1 yellow goalkeeper starts on the goal line near one goalpost
  3. Coach: 1 grey coach/server positioned outside the penalty area with a supply of balls
  4. Equipment: Multiple balls at the coach's position outside the penalty area
Instructions
  1. The coach/server strikes the ball first-time after receiving it from the goalkeeper.
  2. The goalkeeper must assess the ball's flight and quickly recover into a goal-saving position.
  3. Execute a diving save using appropriate technique.
  4. Repeat the drill from both sides of the goal.
Coaching Points
  • Use correct technique and maintain a positive attitude
  • Stay on the balls of feet, with hands ready at waist level
  • Anticipate the shot by staying focused and organized
  • React quickly, analyzing angles and ball flight
  • Move explosively into the ready position
  • Ensure effective footwork and speed of recovery
  • Perform accurate and timely dive saves
  • Maintain balance with slightly bent knees
  • Understand goalpost locations for spatial awareness
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed of the ball delivery
2. Reduce the time between attempts
3. Introduce varied angles and heights for the shot
Make it easier:
1. Allow more time for the goalkeeper to reset
2. Use slower ball speeds
3. Start shots from a closer distance for easier saves
