Equipment
- Markers/Cones for the playing area
- One ball
- Goal/Net
Setup
- Area: 25x15 yard area with a 5-yard end zone, marked by cones.
- Goals: One goal centred on the end line of the area, opposite the start line.
- Team Red: 1 red defender starts inside the area, plus 2 additional red defenders start outside the area beyond the end zone ready to chase back after the first touch.
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line in front of the goal.
- Team Blue: 3 blue attackers start inside the area near the start line.
- Coach: 1 grey coach positioned at the start line holding the ball to pass in to an attacker.
- Equipment: Cones/markers marking the corners of the 25x15 yard area and the 5-yard end zone, one ball, one goal/net on the end line.
Instructions
- Coach passes to one attacker.
- On the first touch, additional defenders chase back to defend.
- Attackers aim to dribble and combine to create a goal-scoring opportunity.
- Defenders aim to regain possession and pass over the start line.
- Roles reverse if defenders gain possession or goalkeeper saves.
Coaching Points
- Provide angles of support and close ball control.
- Maintain a positive attitude and disguise intentions.
- Keep your head up to scan the field.
- Use teammates as decoys to mislead defenders.
- Focus on the quality of the finish on goal.
- Look to penetrate quickly and exploit 1v1 situations.
- Ensure attackers don’t overpass; encourage individual dribbling.
- Defenders focus on recovery runs and delay tactics.
- Goalkeeper to support and communicate effectively.
- Encourage communication and creative footwork from attackers.
- Understand when to dribble or pass to maximize chances.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Introduce a second defender from the start.
2. Reduce the space of the playing area for quicker decision-making.
3. Add offside restrictions to increase attacker awareness.
Make it easier:
1. Start without any recovering defenders.
2. Increase the area size to allow more space for attackers.
3. Allow attackers to start with the ball closer to the goal.
