Equipment
- 1 ball for the drill
- 20 cones or markers
- Suitable playing area
Setup
- Area: 16x16 yard area marked with cones, with a 2x2 yard square in each corner
- Group: 4 players, one positioned in each corner square, with only one player starting with the ball
- Equipment: 1 ball, 20 cones marking the outer 16x16 yard boundary and the four 2x2 yard corner squares
Instructions
- The player with the ball dribbles to a corner square of their choice to challenge a player.
- Upon reaching the square, the player stops the ball, tags the opponent, and then sprints back to their original corner.
- The tagged player dribbles the ball and tries to catch the first player before they reach their square.
- Once the chase ends, the new challenger picks another player to challenge.
- Track points for successful returns to original squares and player catches.
Coaching Points
- Emphasize quick decision-making and explosive starts.
- Encourage clear communication among players.
- Focus on players' dribbling skills under pressure.
- Regular hydration breaks to maintain performance.
- Monitor players' body language and focus.
- Make sure warm-ups raise heart rate effectively.
- Ensure exercises suit the main session theme.
- Progressive increase in intensity is crucial.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the corner squares to increase difficulty.
2. Add a second ball to increase challenge and intensity.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the corner squares to allow more space for players.
2. Allow walking instead of sprinting for younger or less experienced players.
