Equipment
- Two pairs of poles
- Soccer ball
Setup
- Area: No fixed dimensions stated; open space sized to fit two mini goals facing each other, with the goalkeeper working between them.
- Goals: Two mini goals, each formed by a pair of poles set 2 yards apart, positioned facing each other a short distance apart.
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned centrally between the two mini goals.
- Coach: 1 grey coach positioned just outside the mini goals holding the ball, ready to roll it toward either goal.
- Equipment: Two pairs of poles (4 poles total) set 2 yards apart forming each mini goal; 1 soccer ball with the coach.
Instructions
- The coach rolls the ball towards one of the mini goals.
- The goalkeeper anticipates, moves to meet the ball, and executes a save using 1v1 techniques.
- Reset and repeat the action focusing on different angles.
Coaching Points
- Maintain a balanced, forward-leaning set position.
- Decide early on the action plan in 1v1.
- Stand large to make the goal appear smaller.
- React quickly to the direction of the ball.
- Keep knees slightly bent for agility.
- Move light on feet to get into position.
- Focus on the flight and pace of the ball.
- Adopt a positive attitude and expect shots.
- Utilize proper footwork and technique.
- Develop confidence to handle varying ball heights and speeds.
- Practice effective diving saves and angle narrowing.
- Ensure technical habits become second nature.
- Build balance, speed, and coordination for optimal saving.
- Gradually increase intensity for overload without losing form.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the distance between the mini goals.
2. Increase the speed and frequency of shots.
3. Incorporate feints or fake shots by the coach.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the distance between the mini goals.
2. Slow down the speed of the shots.
3. Allow the goalkeeper to start closer to the anticipated save point.
