Equipment
- Three poles
- Balls
- Goal
Setup
- Area: Goal area extending from the goal line out to the penalty spot
- Goals: One goal centred on the goal line
- Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper starting at the near post, facing the first server
- Coach: 2 grey coaches/servers, one positioned at the near post and one at the penalty spot
- Equipment: Three poles spaced equidistant on the goal line inside the goal, plus balls for serving
Instructions
- The first server throws the ball to the server on the penalty spot.
- The goalkeeper uses crossover steps to move between the poles and gets into a set position.
- The coach/server volleys or half-volleys the ball towards the goalkeeper for a save.
- The goalkeeper moves to the opposite post and repeats the sequence.
Coaching Points
- Use proper technique to handle saves effectively.
- Maintain control of the 6-yard box.
- Prepare hands before handling the ball.
- Execute explosive movements during saves.
- Analyze the angle and approach of the opponent.
- Monitor the flight and speed of the ball.
- Focus on the timing of ball collection.
- Maintain authority as the ball approaches.
- Ensure high-intensity actions are performed with quality.
- Rest adequately between repetitions.
- Gradually increase exercise intensity for effective overload.
- Stay light on feet while moving to the set position.
- Maintain focus and organization in movement.
- Build confidence handling varying ball speeds and heights.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Use smaller or heavier balls.
2. Increase the speed or intensity of volleys.
3. Add a dummy attacker for increased pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the number of saves per set.
2. Use lighter balls.
3. Decrease the pace of volleys.
