Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Goals
  • Balls
  • Cones or markers for area setup
Setup
  1. Area: 50x30 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One goal at each end of the area, each with a goalkeeper
  3. Team Red: 2 red outfield players (a pair) start on the center line, positioned to face the Team Blue goalkeeper
  4. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line at the Team Red end
  5. Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players (a pair) start on the center line, 15 yards from the Team Red pair, positioned to face the Team Red goalkeeper
  6. Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line at the Team Blue end
  7. Neutral: 1 black playmaker positioned in the center of the area
  8. Equipment: Balls with the goalkeepers to start play, cones marking the four corners of the 50x30 area
Instructions
  1. Goalkeeper initiates by throwing or kicking the ball to the playmaker.
  2. The playmaker uses a head flick, foot deflection, or disguised move to pass sharply to one pair of players.
  3. The pair receiving the ball attacks the goal while the other pair defends.
  4. Defending pair quickly transitions to win the ball and counter-attack.
  5. If defenders win the ball, roles switch in a quick transition.
  6. After a scoring attempt, pairs jog outside the area to recover.
  7. Rotate playmakers every three rounds, ensuring rest and recovery.
  8. Monitor intensity and duration for appropriate overload and recovery.
Coaching Points
  • Ensure training is specific to football scenarios.
  • Balance between overload and necessary recovery to avoid overtraining.
  • Intensify to challenge aerobic and anaerobic systems.
  • Enhance flexibility in training to manage energy levels.
  • Adopt a player-centered approach considering technical, tactical, physical, and psychological aspects.
  • Improve ability for sustained high-intensity actions.
  • Foster quick recovery after intense activities.
  • Maintain performance quality under fatigue.
  • Build endurance for late-game effectiveness.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the reaction time by reducing space between pairs.
2. Introduce a second playmaker for increased unpredictability.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the space between pairs to allow more reaction time.
2. Limit the defenders to shadow defending for the first few rounds.
