Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
- Balls (one per player)
- 8-10 Cones for marking the area
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 1 blue outfield player with a ball, starting spaced inside the grid dribbling freely
- Neutral: 1 black tagger player, starting inside the grid opposite the group player
- Equipment: 8-10 cones marking the corners and edges of the 20x20 yard area, 1 ball per player with a ball
Instructions
- The tagger attempts to tag other players' balls by placing their foot on them.
- When tagged, players perform five toe taps before resuming dribbling.
- Players must also complete toe taps if they dribble out of the playing area.
- Rotate the tagger regularly to give everyone a chance to tag.
Coaching Points
- Maintain close control of the ball.
- Keep your head up to scan the area.
- Make quick decisions about where and when to dribble.
- Use your body to shield and protect the ball.
- Stay low with knees bent for balance and agility.
- Practice accelerating away into open space after toe taps.
- Encourage a positive mindset and confidence while dribbling.
- Improve directional changes and reverses under pressure.
- Develop spatial awareness and understand your surroundings.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the size of the playing area for more dribbling opportunities.
2. Allow more than one tagger to increase pressure.
3. Require tagged players to execute additional ball control moves before resuming.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to limit running speed.
2. Allow tagged players to perform only three toe taps before continuing.
3. Provide targeted coaching and feedback during the activity to improve skills.
