Equipment
- 2 Goals
- Multiple Balls
- Cones for marking the main and small areas
Setup
- Area: 50x20 yard field marked with cones, divided into two smaller zones for 4v1 play
- Goals: One goal at each end of the 50x20 field
- Team Blue: 8 blue outfield attackers, 4 positioned inside each small zone to receive passes from their server
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line at one end
- Team Red: 2 red defenders, one positioned inside each small zone to press the 4 attackers
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line at the opposite end
- Coach: 2 grey servers, one stationed just outside each small zone to feed balls to the attackers
- Equipment: Cones marking the outer 50x20 area and cones marking the boundaries of the two smaller 4v1 zones within it
Instructions
- Start with the server feeding the ball to the 4 attackers.
- Attackers maintain possession while pressured by the single defender.
- When an opportunity arises, release one player to break from their zone and challenge the goalkeeper 1v1.
- The defender remains in the original zone and cannot pursue.
- Offside rules apply at the edge of the zone.
- Rotate roles after a set number of attempts.
Coaching Points
- Ensure constant communication among attackers.
- Focus on a solid first touch.
- Keep heads up to identify opportunities.
- Move the ball efficiently into spaces.
- Avoid predictable straight-line passes.
- Maintain accuracy, timing, and disguise in passing.
- Sharp receiving and turning within the zone.
- Execute quick, limited-touch combinations.
- Enhance movement with and without the ball.
- Practice quick wall passes and first touch accuracy.
- Strike early when facing the goal.
- Maintain awareness of receiving positions.
- Optimize support angles and distances.
- Form triangles and diamonds for support.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of defenders to 2 in each area.
2. Reduce the size of the playing zones.
3. Extend the distance to the goal for the breakout player.
Make it easier:
1. Allow the defender to chase down the break-out player.
2. Increase the size of the small playing zones.
3. Reduce the number of passes required before breaking out.
