Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls
  • Cones to set up the circle
Setup
  1. Area: 20-yard diameter circle marked with cones (adjustable to vary passing distances)
  2. Team Blue: 3 blue attackers positioned inside the circle
  3. Team Red: 3 red passive defenders positioned inside the circle, marking the attackers
  4. Neutral: 6 black server players, one stationed on the outside of the circle opposite each inside player, each holding a ball
  5. Equipment: cones marking the circle boundary, 6 balls held by the outside server players
Instructions
  1. Outside players hand-serve the ball to attackers in the circle.
  2. Attackers must control the ball using an appropriate surface and pass it back to the server.
  3. After passing, attackers receive a new serve from another server.
  4. Rotate roles frequently so all players experience attacking, defending, and serving.
Coaching Points
  • Cushion or wedge the ball upon contact.
  • Decide early on which surface to use for control.
  • Keep your head up to observe movement.
  • Maintain the ball's momentum.
  • Align yourself with the path of the ball.
  • Avoid moving the ball in straight lines.
  • Face forward when receiving if possible.
  • Use various surfaces: chest, thigh, instep, or head.
  • Correct any technical faults immediately.
  • Be aware of supporting players' positions.
  • Relax and control the ball upon impact.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Enlarge the circle for longer passes.
2. Use chip or lofted passes instead of hand serves.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the circle size for closer passes.
2. Use only hand serves without defenders present.
