Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones for boundaries
  • Mini goals
  • Several balls
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One mini goal in each of two opposite corners of the grid
  3. Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts on the perimeter of the grid, opposite Team Blue
  4. Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts on the perimeter of the grid, opposite Team Red
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the corners and boundaries of the 20x20 area, one mini goal set in each of two opposite corners, several balls scattered throughout the playing area
Instructions
  1. On the coach's signal, players collect balls from the grid using their hands and throw them into their team's goal.
  2. Once this stage is complete, progress to players dribbling balls and shooting into their goal.
  3. Encourage quick reactions and teamwork throughout the drill.
Coaching Points
  • Promote teamwork and communication between players.
  • Foster awareness of space and movements within the area.
  • Encourage players to maintain close control of the ball.
  • Focus on basic kicking technique and use of different foot parts.
  • Ensure the session is engaging and all players participate.
  • Let the game be the teacher, facilitating playful learning.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area for increased difficulty.
2. Set a time limit for goal completion to increase intensity.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area to allow more space.
2. Permit walking with the ball before shooting for younger players.
3. Use fewer balls to simplify management and decision-making.
