Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls
  • Goal
  • Cones/Markers (to outline the 18-yard width)
Setup
  1. Area: 18-yard box width by approx 18 yards deep, marked with cones
  2. Goals: One large goal centred on the end line
  3. Team Red: 2 red outfield players (defenders) start centrally in the area, ready to challenge the attackers
  4. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the goal
  5. Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players (attackers) start lined up along the baseline opposite the goal, spaced evenly across the width of the area
  6. Equipment: Cones/markers outlining the 18-yard width of the area, balls for play
Instructions
  1. The defender plays a ball out to one of the attackers.
  2. Attackers must play 4v2 and aim to score within 10 seconds.
  3. Defenders move into position as the ball travels.
  4. Attackers should communicate, and utilize sharp passing and movement.
  5. Reset the play once the ball is dead and switch defending pairs regularly.
Coaching Points
  • Foster effective communication between players.
  • Emphasize an end product with quick decision making.
  • Use a good first touch, keeping the head up.
  • Attack at pace with quality, accurate passing.
  • Provide good angles and distances for support.
  • Make early decisions both on and off the ball.
  • Employ clever and inventive play.
  • Adjust pace and angles of attack based on pressure.
  • Balance tempo to match the situation.
  • Apply attacking principles: width, depth, penetration, mobility, possession.
  • Encourage continual ball movement.
  • Observe players' technique, body position, and speed of attack.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the time allowed to score to 8 seconds.
2. Increase defenders to three.
Make it easier:
1. Allow attackers 12 seconds to score.
2. Start with three attackers instead of four.
