Equipment
- Cones for marking the playing area into a 30x25 grid and zones
- Goal
- Multiple balls
Setup
- Area: 30x25 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One goal at one end of the area
- Team Red: 3 red outfield players, one positioned in each of three of the four zones as designated defenders
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the goal
- Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players, standing in two lines at the end of the area opposite the goal, with one line holding a ball each
- Equipment: Cones marking the 30x25 yard perimeter and 3 additional lines of cones dividing the area into four equal zones
Instructions
- Two attacking players enter the first zone to play 2v1 against the defender.
- Attacking players can pass or dribble to progress through each zone.
- After navigating through all zones, attackers aim to shoot and score.
- Switch roles after each attempt, with attackers becoming defenders.
Coaching Points
- Effective communication between players.
- Create and exploit space to receive passes.
- Ensure supporting angles and distances are optimal.
- Make quick decisions on and off the ball.
- Quality passing: accurate, well-timed, and disguised.
- Movement to unsettle defenders.
- Keep the ball moving to maintain momentum.
- Accurate and thoughtful pass execution.
- Awareness of available passing options and positions.
- Use body shape effectively to receive passes.
- Develop spatial awareness and decision-making.
- Encourage making space individually and for teammates.
- Ensure visibility of passing pathways.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce space by shrinking the playing area.
2. Add an extra defender in one of the zones.
3. Limit attackers to two touches per possession.
Make it easier:
1. Expand the playing area to provide more space.
2. Use passive defenders in one or more zones.
3. Add a third attacker to create 3v1 scenarios.
