Equipment
- 4 small goals
- 1 soccer ball
- Cones for marking area and triangle
Setup
- Area: 40x40 yard area marked with cones, with a triangle marked using cones in the center
- Goals: One small goal on each of the four sides of the area
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts with the ball inside the area, attacking the central triangle
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts positioned around the central triangle, protecting it
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 40x40 area, cones marking the central triangle, 4 small goals (one on each side), 1 soccer ball
Instructions
- The attacking team tries to dribble into the triangle to score a point.
- The defending team intercepts and aims to score in the small goals.
- Rotate roles after a set time or number of successful attempts.
Coaching Points
- Close down the ball quickly
- Maintain constant communication
- Stay alert and light on your feet
- Predict and guide play predictably
- Nearest player quickly closes down the ball
- Maintain compactness as a defensive unit
- Pressure and cover attackers effectively
- Balance defensive shape to limit space
- Intercept when possible
- Transition quickly from attack to defense
- Use effective defensive angles and distances
- Determine when to mark players and when to cover space
- Coordinate rapid transitions to counterattack
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Increase the number of goals to six.
3. Limit touches for both attacking and defending teams.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area for more space.
2. Allow unlimited touches for the defending team.
3. Use only three goals for the defending team to cover.
