Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls
  • Three target goals or markers
Setup
  1. Area: Open area in front of goal, no fixed boundaries
  2. Goals: One main goal for the goalkeeper, with three smaller target goals/markers set at different distances from the goalkeeper
  3. Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned centrally in front of the main goal, ready to receive the ball
  4. Coach: 1 grey coach/server positioned 7-10 yards from the goalkeeper with a supply of balls
  5. Equipment: Three target goals or markers numbered 1, 2 and 3, placed at varying distances from the goalkeeper, plus a supply of balls
Instructions
  1. The coach/server passes the ball at varying heights to simulate a back pass.
  2. The goalkeeper controls the ball using different body parts as needed.
  3. As the ball approaches, the coach dictates the target goal by calling out a number (1, 2, or 3).
  4. The goalkeeper quickly decides the distribution method and passes accurately into the designated target goal.
  5. Repeat several times, then switch goalkeepers.
Coaching Points
  • Use correct technique for receiving and distributing the ball.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and focus.
  • Make early decisions based on the target goal callout.
  • Deliver accurate passes with proper weight and timing.
  • Approach the ball at a slight angle.
  • Ensure smooth transition from receiving to distributing the ball.
  • Use effective footwork for positioning.
  • Relax and control the ball efficiently to change angles.
  • Stay balanced and follow through after passing.
  • Remain light on feet during movement.
  • Always be organized and focused.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce response time by calling out targets later.
2. Increase the distance to target goals.
3. Add pressure by introducing a defender to rush the goalkeeper.
Make it easier:
1. Position the target goals closer to the goalkeeper.
2. Provide a slower-paced or underhanded toss from the coach/server.
3. Allow the goalkeeper to choose any target goal without number restriction.
