Equipment
- 10+ Balls
- 4 Cones (to define the grid)
Setup
- Area: 35x35 yard grid marked with cones
- Group: 3 red outfield players - 2 paired players sharing one ball positioned near the centre of the grid, and 1 remaining player positioned elsewhere in the grid with their own ball
- Equipment: 4 cones marking the corners of the 35x35 yard grid, 2 balls total (1 shared by the paired players near the centre, 1 for the remaining player)
Instructions
- Players in possession dribble freely within the grid.
- The paired players execute passes while navigating through the dribbling players.
- Ensure the pair avoids collisions by passing accurately and moving efficiently.
- Rotate roles regularly to give all players a chance to pass and dribble.
Coaching Points
- Use laces for effective ball movement.
- Keep the ball close with minimal touches.
- Communicate effectively with teammates.
- Maintain speed to exploit openings.
- Execute a quality first touch.
- Raise your head to scan the environment.
- Choose suitable techniques and skills.
- Show positive intent to advance with the ball as space develops.
- Understand when and why to exploit open spaces.
- Encourage the use of the furthest foot to control.
- Alter angle on first touch to improve positioning.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed intensity of the exercise.
2. Reduce the size of the grid to test spatial skills.
Make it easier:
1. Expand the grid size for more space.
2. Allow the pair to use two balls initially to simplify the passing.
