- Cones
- Soccer balls
Setup
- Area: 15x15 yard area marked with cones
- Group: 4 red outfield players spaced evenly inside the area
- Coach: 1 grey coach/server positioned outside the area, delivering aerial balls to the defenders
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 15x15 yard area, soccer balls with the coach/server
Instructions
- The server tosses or kicks the ball into the air.
- Defenders communicate to decide who will head the ball.
- The chosen defender jumps and performs a defensive header.
- After heading, the players reset inside the area.
- Repeat, varying who attacks the ball.
Coaching Points
- Arch the back and use neck muscles to generate power.
- Maintain constant communication among defenders.
- Keep eyes on the ball and attack its middle with the forehead.
- Ensure good body shape and light feet movement.
- Practice both one-footed and two-footed jumps.
- Perform the header with eyes open and mouth closed.
- Demonstrate and reinforce correct heading techniques.
- Build player confidence through effective technique.
- Emphasize decisive actions when attacking the ball.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase ball delivery speed.
2. Use a smaller area to increase intensity.
Make it easier:
1. Use slower and shorter ball deliveries.
2. Allow more time between each ball delivery for players to set up.
