Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Balls
  • Cones to mark a 15x15 yard area
Setup
  1. Area: 15x15 yard area marked with cones
  2. Team Red: 2 red outfield players start inside the grid
  3. Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players start inside the grid
  4. Neutral: 4 black neutral support players, one positioned at the middle of each side of the grid perimeter
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the 15x15 yard area, several balls available at the grid for continuous play
Instructions
  1. Play 2v2 within the central grid.
  2. The team in possession can pass to any outside support player.
  3. Support players must immediately return the ball to the same team.
  4. Rotate players to different roles at regular intervals.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage player communication.
  • Keep heads up for spatial awareness.
  • Constant movement to maintain positioning.
  • Focus on pass quality, including accuracy and timing.
  • Receive with the back foot away from the opponent.
  • Create support angles using diamond and triangle setups.
  • Prioritize passing options effectively.
  • Support players with the ball by offering passing lanes.
  • Understand when to pass and choose appropriate technique.
  • Use movement to create individual space.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the grid to increase pressure.
2. Limit the number of touches for inside players.
3. Introduce a time limit for possession.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the grid size for more space.
2. Allow more touches for inside players.
3. Permit outside players to retain the ball for longer before passing back.
