- Cones for boundary marking
- Balls
Setup
- Area: 30x30 yard area marked with cones
- Team Red: 4 red outfield players — 2 stationed inside the area and 2 acting as servers stationed outside the area holding the ball, spaced evenly around the boundary
- Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players — 2 stationed inside the area and 2 acting as servers stationed outside the area, spaced evenly around the boundary
- Equipment: cones marking the corners/perimeter of the 30x30 yard area, balls held by the red outside servers to start
Instructions
- Red server throws the ball to an inside teammate.
- Inside player controls the ball aerially and either passes to an inside teammate or returns it to an outside server.
- If blue defenders win possession, they pass to their outside server to restart.
- Rotate roles regularly between inside and outside players.
Coaching Points
- Focus on cushion or wedge technique for controlling the ball.
- Communicate clearly and frequently with teammates.
- Decide early which body surface to use for control.
- Keep your head up for awareness of options.
- Maintain ball movement to create opportunities.
- Align your movement with the ball's path.
- Move the ball off straight lines to confuse defenders.
- Relax upon ball contact to improve control.
- Utilize proper body shape to receive passes.
- Angle movements to receive effectively.
- Choose the best option for passing based on the situation.
- Consistently scan the field to enhance decision-making.
- Ensure high-quality serves from outside players.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Limit time for inside players to pass or control the ball.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area size for more space.
2. Allow controlled touches before passing.
3. Permit ground passes to ease control.
