Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones to mark the 20x20 playing area
  • Cones to set up the 5-yard cage
  • One ball for each Monkey
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Team Red: 1 red outfield player (Monkey) starts inside the 20x20 area with a ball
  3. Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player (Zookeeper) starts outside the 20x20 area, without a ball
  4. Equipment: cones marking the 20x20 yard playing area, cones marking a 5-yard square cage positioned outside the playing area, one ball for each Monkey
Instructions
  1. Monkeys dribble the ball within the area, maintaining close control.
  2. Zookeepers enter the area, aiming to intercept and dribble a ball into the cage.
  3. Captured Monkeys can free themselves by performing two juggles or an appropriate skill within the cage.
  4. Monkeys return to the game and continue dribbling if they successfully perform the skill.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage player involvement and enjoyment.
  • Emphasize spatial awareness and ball control within the area.
  • Utilize different parts of the foot for dribbling.
  • Adjust speed while maintaining control.
  • Allow gameplay to guide learning, reducing direct coaching where possible.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of Zookeepers.
2. Decrease the size of the playing area, increasing pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the number of Zookeepers.
2. Expand the playing area to allow more space for Monkeys to maneuver.
