Equipment
- Small goals
- Cones for marking zones
- Soccer balls
Setup
- Area: 40x30 yard area marked with cones, divided into two 10-yard end zones and a 20-yard middle zone.
- Goals: One small goal centred on each end line.
- Team Red: 4 red outfield players start in the 20-yard middle zone.
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line at the red team's end.
- Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start in the 20-yard middle zone.
- Team Blue GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line at the blue team's end.
- Neutral: 2 black target players, one positioned in each 10-yard end zone.
- Equipment: Cones marking the outer 40x30 boundary and the lines separating the two 10-yard end zones from the central 20-yard zone.
Instructions
- Goalkeeper plays short to a defender to initiate play.
- The team in possession looks for opportunities to pass the ball into their target player.
- Target players attempt to set up teammates for shots or take shots themselves.
- Target players must remain within their respective end zones.
- Encourage quick support and movement for effective pass options.
Coaching Points
- Encourage clear communication among players.
- Support requires good angles and distances.
- Make smart, early decisions on and off the ball.
- Ensure a quality first touch.
- Promote forward play whenever possible.
- Focus on pass accuracy, timing, and disguise.
- Quick support after passing.
- Maintain a good body shape.
- Look for forward passing options without forcing plays.
- Select effective pass types.
- Use combination plays with minimal touches.
- Keep the ball circulating efficiently.
- Execute passes with appropriate weight.
- Encourage unpredictability in play.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the space in the playing area.
2. Limit the number of touches allowed.
3. Add a neutral player in the middle zone.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Allow target players to move outside their zones.
3. Add an extra player to the team in possession.
