Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones for 20x20 yard boundary
  • Small goals on three sides
  • Footballs
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: 3 small goals, one centred on three of the four sides of the square
  3. Team Red: 2 red outfield players start on the open (goal-less) side of the square as the first attacking pair
  4. Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players start on the side of the square opposite the red pair, ready to counter-attack once the red attack ends
  5. Neutral: 4 black players — 2 stationed centrally in the square acting as the defending pair for the current attack, and 2 resting on the side of the square outside the boundary awaiting rotation in
  6. Equipment: cones marking the 20x20 yard square boundary, 3 small goals positioned on three of the four sides of the square
Instructions
  1. Red attackers start the drill by attempting to score against white defenders.
  2. After a goal or possession change, white attackers immediately counter-attack the red team.
  3. Once possession changes again or a goal is scored, blue attackers engage the white defenders.
  4. Players should utilize body feints, sharp turns, and combinations to break down defenses.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain ball control to ensure possession.
  • Communicate effectively for coordinated attacks and positioning.
  • Make strategic dribbling decisions and create space.
  • Use first touch to set up quick subsequent moves.
  • Position effectively to support and not crowd teammates.
  • Decide whether to dribble, pass, or shield quickly.
  • Approach challenges with confidence.
  • Use feints and pace changes to outwit defenders.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the space to 15x15 yards to limit player movement.
2. Introduce a time limit for attacks to increase pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Allow attackers an extra player (3v2 scenario).
2. Increase the area to 25x25 yards for more maneuvering space.
