Equipment
- Multiple balls for restarts
- Goals (one at each end)
- Cones or markers to delineate the playing area
Setup
- Area: 40x25 yard rectangular area, adjusting size based on player numbers
- Goals: One goal at each end of the area, centred on each end line
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts paired against their designated blue opponent, positioned across the area from them
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts paired against their designated red opponent, positioned across the area from them
- Equipment: Cones or markers delineating the corners of the playing area, multiple balls placed around the perimeter for quick restarts
Instructions
- Players can only intercept passes but not tackle directly.
- Teams attempt to score in the opposition's goal.
- Once a team scores, they retreat allowing the opposition to restart from the goal line.
- The ball is passed in rather than thrown when it goes out of play.
Coaching Points
- Encourage constant communication to enhance teamwork.
- Focus on creating space to receive the ball effectively.
- Practice good first touches and keeping the head up to read the game.
- Keep the ball moving into space to maintain possession.
- Ensure quality passes through precise timing and disguise.
- Quickly offer support to teammates in possession.
- Utilize appropriate body shape for receiving and passing.
- Consider angles and distances for optimal support.
- Identify when a forward pass is possible and beneficial.
- Change angles with the first touch to exploit space.
- Be aware of passing options and adapt body shape accordingly.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Allow tackling beyond direct opponents.
3. Introduce a time limit to score a goal after gaining possession.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area to allow more space and time.
2. Permit tackling across more opponents, not just direct partner.
3. Allow throw-ins instead of pass-ins to simplify restarts.
