Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones for marking the playing area
  • One ball per player
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 1 player starts inside the area with a ball at their feet, spaced evenly if more players are added
  3. Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area, one ball per player
Instructions
  1. Players dribble around the area, maintaining close ball control.
  2. On the coach's call, players pick up their ball and run with it in their hands.
  3. When 'hands up' is called, players hold the ball above their heads while running.
  4. On 'balls down,' players resume dribbling with their feet.
  5. Vary the instructions to keep focus and engagement.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage continuous player participation.
  • Foster enjoyment during the session.
  • Facilitate spatial awareness within the playing area.
  • Emphasize close ball control using different parts of the foot.
  • Allow the game to naturally teach movement and control.
  • Focus on dribbling at varying speeds.
  • Ensure age-appropriate and engaging activities.
  • Promote understanding of personal space and movement.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area to increase difficulty.
2. Introduce obstacles or defenders for players to navigate.
3. Increase the speed of instruction changes to test reactions.
Make it easier:
1. Expand the playing area to allow more room for control.
2. Allow players to only dribble without running instructions.
3. Provide brief breaks between calls to discuss technique.
