Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Soccer balls
  • Cones for marking square
Setup
  1. Area: 22x22 yard square marked with cones
  2. Team Red: 2 red outfield players (defenders) start inside the grid
  3. Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players (attackers) start inside the grid
  4. Neutral: 4 black players positioned one on each sideline of the square, one of whom starts with the ball as server
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 22x22 yard square, soccer balls for serving into the grid
Instructions
  1. The server sends an underarm pass to the attackers.
  2. Attackers use a controlled first touch to receive the ball.
  3. Attackers combine to retain possession and pass back to an outside player.
  4. Outside players prepare to serve the ball back into the grid.
  5. If defenders gain possession, they become the attackers.
  6. Rotate outside players regularly.
Coaching Points
  • Emphasize a soft, controlled first touch to maintain possession.
  • Encourage constant communication among all players.
  • Promote quick decision-making under pressure.
  • Use consistent underarm serves for reliable passes.
  • Stress proper body positioning to comfortably receive passes.
  • Focus on effective combination plays before passing back.
  • Instruct defenders to press actively without committing fouls.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the grid size to increase pressure.
2. Limit time for attackers to control and pass the ball.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the grid size to provide more space.
2. Allow attackers more time to control and pass the ball.
3. Use additional servers to assist with ball entry.
