Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Mini goals
  • Cones
  • Soccer balls
  • Players (two teams)
Setup
  1. Area: 30x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One mini goal centred on each end line
  3. Team Red: 1 red outfield player starts spaced evenly across the area
  4. Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player starts spaced evenly across the area
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 30x20 yard area, one mini goal on each end line, one soccer ball given to each team at the start
Instructions
  1. Teams compete to score in the opponent’s mini goal.
  2. If a player scores, they must run a full lap around the pitch before rejoining the game.
  3. The opposing team has a temporary numerical advantage during the scorer's absence.
  4. Continue playing for a set duration or until a score limit is reached.
Coaching Points
  • Encourage verbal communication among teammates.
  • Maintain a good first touch and keep your head up.
  • Move the ball creatively into open spaces, avoiding predictable straight lines.
  • Ensure passes are accurate, well-timed, and, if possible, disguised.
  • Focus on forward passing but use angles to exploit space.
  • Support teammates by forming triangles and diamonds for effective spacing.
  • Receive passes with the furthest foot to maintain open space.
  • Adjust body shape to improve pass reception.
  • Actively observe and understand options while moving.
  • Encourage quality and technical precision in passing.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Add a second ball to increase game speed and complexity.
2. Shrink the play area to amplify close control and decision-making under pressure.
3. Restrict players to limited touches to challenge ball control.
Make it easier:
1. Expand the play area to give more space and time for decision-making.
2. Allow goal scorers to rejoin the game without a lap, reducing overload difficulty.
3. Use larger goals to facilitate easier scoring opportunities.
