Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones (white)
  • Red cones
  • Full-size goal
  • Balls
Setup
  1. Area: Full pitch
  2. Goals: One full-size goal
  3. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned between the two red cones, facing the coach
  4. Coach: 1 grey coach positioned facing the goalkeeper, ready to serve balls
  5. Equipment: 2 red cones positioned 5 yards apart in front of the goal, 2 diagonal lines of white cones leading from wide positions to each red cone, balls with the coach
Instructions
  1. Coach serves the ball towards the goalkeeper, aiming over the red cones for saves requiring diving.
  2. Goalkeeper watches the ball, moves forward, and executes a diving save.
  3. Ensure the goalkeeper attacks the ball, resisting backward diving.
  4. Move the red cones and alternate the direction of serves to vary dives.
Coaching Points
  • Maintain a balanced set position, weight on the balls of feet.
  • Focus on the flight and pace of the ball.
  • Assess timing for takeoff and collection.
  • React quickly and ensure a positive attitude.
  • Keep knees slightly bent, staying light on feet.
  • Adjust workloads progressively for training intensity.
  • Prioritize footwork and correct technical habits.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the distance between red cones to challenge reaction time.
2. Serve the ball with increased speed or curl.
3. Add a second ball to simulate consecutive saves.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the distance between red cones to make dives more manageable.
2. Allow the goalkeeper to start closer to the target area.
3. Serve the ball at a reduced speed to enhance control.
