Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones for marking the 20x20 area
  • Additional cones for four 1-yard gates
  • Balls (begin with one, add more for increased difficulty)
Setup
  1. Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
  2. Group: 4 players, one positioned at each of the four 1-yard gates spaced evenly inside the area
  3. Equipment: Cones marking the 20x20 area boundary, 8 additional cones forming four 1-yard gates positioned inside the area, 1 ball to start per group of four (additional balls added for increased difficulty)
Instructions
  1. Players pass the ball to a teammate positioned at a gate.
  2. The receiving player takes their first touch through the gate.
  3. Continue passing clockwise using quality passes and communication.
  4. Players may change direction to test the reaction and touch of others.
Coaching Points
  • Ensure a good first touch to control and guide the ball.
  • Keep your head up to survey the field and options.
  • Focus on passing quality: be accurate, timely, and disguise intentions.
  • Choose the correct passing technique for the situation.
  • Stay light on your feet and be ready to adjust quickly.
  • Maintain an open body shape to efficiently receive passes.
  • Constantly communicate with teammates for smooth play.
  • Encourage continuous ball movement and dynamic positioning.
  • Use both feet effectively to control and pass.
  • Identify and correct technical issues in passing and receiving.
  • Pass and move swiftly to create open spaces.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Add more balls to increase speed and complexity.
2. Limit players to one-touch passes only.
Make it easier:
1. Allow an extra touch after receiving through the gate.
2. Increase gate size for easier control and passage.
3. Reduce the playing area to decrease movement demand.
