Equipment
- Cones for marking the playing area
- 2 Small goals
- Soccer balls
Setup
- Area: 25x25 yard area marked with cones
- Goals: One small goal centred on each end line
- Team Red: 3 red outfield players start inside the area near their own goal with possession of the ball
- Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players start inside the area near their own goal, opposite Team Red
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 25x25 yard area, 2 small goals on each end line, soccer balls.
Instructions
- The player with the ball passes to an opposition player to start the game.
- The receiving team becomes the attackers, trying to score in the opponent's goal.
- Defenders try to block and regain possession.
- If defenders win the ball, they can counter-attack towards the opposite goal.
Coaching Points
- Close down the ball quickly to limit space
- Communicate effectively as a team
- Stay focused and light on your feet
- Make play predictable by angling body correctly
- Nearest defender presses, others provide cover and balance
- Maintain a compact defensive shape
- Be patient and look for opportunities to win the ball
- Transition quickly from defense to attack upon winning the ball
- Know when to apply pressure and when to concede ground
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area.
2. Increase the number of attackers on one team.
3. Introduce a time limit for defenders to win the ball.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area size.
2. Allow defenders an extra player.
3. Reduce the number of attackers.
