Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones for marking the playing area
  • 2 Small goals
  • Soccer balls
Setup
  1. Area: 25x25 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One small goal centred on each end line
  3. Team Red: 3 red outfield players start inside the area near their own goal with possession of the ball
  4. Team Blue: 3 blue outfield players start inside the area near their own goal, opposite Team Red
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 25x25 yard area, 2 small goals on each end line, soccer balls.
Instructions
  1. The player with the ball passes to an opposition player to start the game.
  2. The receiving team becomes the attackers, trying to score in the opponent's goal.
  3. Defenders try to block and regain possession.
  4. If defenders win the ball, they can counter-attack towards the opposite goal.
Coaching Points
  • Close down the ball quickly to limit space
  • Communicate effectively as a team
  • Stay focused and light on your feet
  • Make play predictable by angling body correctly
  • Nearest defender presses, others provide cover and balance
  • Maintain a compact defensive shape
  • Be patient and look for opportunities to win the ball
  • Transition quickly from defense to attack upon winning the ball
  • Know when to apply pressure and when to concede ground
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce the size of the playing area.
2. Increase the number of attackers on one team.
3. Introduce a time limit for defenders to win the ball.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the playing area size.
2. Allow defenders an extra player.
3. Reduce the number of attackers.
