Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Supply of balls
  • One goalkeeper
  • Markers for the area and player turnaround points
Setup
  1. Area: 18-yard box area marked with cones (approx. 44x18 yards)
  2. Goals: One goal on the goal line at the base of the 18-yard box
  3. Group: 3 black outfield players — Player One at the edge of the marked area with a supply of balls, Player Two positioned 5 yards inside the area from Player One, and Player Three positioned centrally near the edge of the 18-yard box as the main attacking runner
  4. Group GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line
  5. Equipment: Cones marking the perimeter of the 18-yard box area and marking Player Three's turnaround/start point, plus a supply of balls at Player One's position
Instructions
  1. The player in Line One sends a long aerial pass to the player in Line Two.
  2. Player Two lays the ball off into the path of Player Three with a first-time pass.
  3. Player Three times their run to make contact with the ball for a shot on goal.
  4. After shooting, Player Three turns quickly and returns to start position for four more runs.
  5. Rotate roles: Line One to Line Three, Line Two to Line One, and Line Three to Line Two.
  6. Monitor workload and ensure adequate recovery times.
Coaching Points
  • Emphasize timed runs and proper positioning.
  • Focus on accurate layoff and shot delivery.
  • Maintain high intensity to test endurance.
  • Adapt intensity for age and fitness levels.
  • Encourage rapid direction change and acceleration.
  • Ensure clear communication among players.
  • Balance intensity with adequate recovery times.
  • Promote maintaining performance under fatigue.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce rest time between runs.
2. Increase shooting distance.
3. Use weaker foot for passing and shooting.
Make it easier:
1. Allow two touches for the layoff pass.
2. Increase rest duration between efforts.
