Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Cones or markers
  • Small goals
  • Bibs for neutral players
  • Balls
Setup
  1. Area: 40x30 yard central area marked with cones, with an additional 3-yard wide lane added to each end
  2. Goals: One small goal centred on each end line
  3. Team Red: 4 red outfield players start inside the central 40x30 area, playing 4v4
  4. Team Blue: 4 blue outfield players start inside the central 40x30 area, playing 4v4
  5. Neutral: 2 black neutral wingers, one positioned in each 3-yard end lane
  6. Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 40x30 area and the 3-yard end lanes, one small goal at each end, bibs worn by the 2 neutral wingers
Instructions
  1. The 4v4 teams play in the central area, maintaining possession.
  2. Players aim to pass to the neutral wingers in the end lanes.
  3. Upon receiving the ball, use combination play to create scoring chances.
  4. Alternate the neutral players regularly to maintain pace and variety.
Coaching Points
  • Communicate effectively and frequently.
  • Create space to receive the ball comfortably.
  • Position with good angles and distances for support.
  • Make early and decisive actions on and off the ball.
  • Employ quality passing with accuracy and disguise.
  • Support play quickly after passing.
  • Focus on forward passing when possible.
  • Select effective passes with quality end results.
  • Keep the ball moving with minimal touches.
  • Use wingers to shift attacks quickly across the field.
  • Apply attacking principles of width, depth, and penetration.
  • Recognize spatial awareness for making the right passing moves.
  • Show good movement to open up passing lanes.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Limit the touches for central players to two.
2. Add an extra defender in each wide lane.
3. Require all goals to involve a pass from a winger.
Make it easier:
1. Allow unlimited touches for players.
2. Make the wide lanes larger than 3 yards.
3. Use more neutral players in the central area.
