Equipment
- Cones to mark the playing area
- One ball per pair
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area marked with cones
- Team Blue: 1 blue outfield player (dribbler) starts with the ball inside the area
- Team Red: 1 red outfield player (tagger) starts opposite the dribbler inside the area
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area, one ball per pair
Instructions
- The player with the ball (dribbler) starts by dribbling within the designated area.
- The partner attempts to tag the dribbler while maintaining good defensive positioning.
- Each successful tag is noted by both players.
- Swap roles after a set time period.
- The dribbler with the fewest tags is the winner.
- Change partners and repeat the drill.
Coaching Points
- Encourage constant movement and agility from players.
- Focus on dribbling with close ball control.
- Maintain awareness of space and surroundings.
- Use various parts of the foot to control the ball.
- Players should enjoy and engage with the practice.
- Allow the game to naturally facilitate learning.
- Engage all players to maximize participation.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the size of the playing area to increase pressure.
2. Introduce a time limit to increase urgency in tagging.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area for more space.
2. Allow the dribbler to start with a bigger distance from the defender.
