Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Full-size goal
  • Two poles
  • Soccer balls
Setup
  1. Area: Six-yard box area in front of the goal
  2. Goals: One full-size goal on the field
  3. Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper starting centered between two poles, halfway between the goal line and the six-yard box
  4. Coach: 1 grey coach positioned in front of the goalkeeper, at the halfway point between the poles and the six-yard box, ready to serve shots
  5. Equipment: Two poles set in line with the goalposts, halfway between the goal and the six-yard box, plus a supply of soccer balls for the coach
Instructions
  1. Goalkeeper shuffles to the left or right pole and returns to center.
  2. As the goalkeeper sets in front of the poles, the coach serves a shot.
  3. Goalkeeper makes a save and returns to the starting position.
  4. Repeat, alternating shuffle directions with each attempt.
Coaching Points
  • Utilize correct technique and explosive movements.
  • Ensure clear communication and command of the area.
  • Prepare hands early and stay light on feet.
  • Use effective footwork for lateral, forward, and backward movement.
  • Focus on assessing ball flight, angle, and approach.
  • Maintain high speed and intensity with quality form.
  • Include adequate rest periods for optimal performance.
  • Build confidence handling balls of varying heights and speeds.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the speed of ball delivery.
2. Reduce the rest time between repetitions.
Make it easier:
1. Slow down the speed of ball delivery.
2. Allow more time for rest between repetitions.
3. Shorten the distance between the poles.
