Setup
- Area: Corner area matching the width of the penalty area
- Goals: One large goal on the end line within the corner area
- Team Red GK: 1 yellow goalkeeper positioned on the goal line of the goal
- Coach: 1 grey server positioned outside the corner area, level with the corner arc
- Equipment: Poles placed within the 6-yard box to create interference, balls with the server at the corner arc
Instructions
- The server plays an in-swinging corner kick from a stationary ball.
- The goalkeeper anticipates the ball's flight while managing interference from poles.
- Encourage decision-making, communication, and effective handling techniques.
- Switch sides for varied crosses to challenge the goalkeeper from different angles.
Coaching Points
- Adopt a balanced set position with forward body weight.
- Use proper technique to catch high balls at their peak.
- Communicate clearly with defenders.
- Encourage a positive and decisive mindset.
- Stay light and agile on feet when moving.
- Make early decisions based on ball flight assessment.
- Present a larger physical presence to opponents.
- Be aware of goalpost positions.
- Adapt handling techniques as per the situation.
- Execute positive take-offs and collections.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Increase the number of poles for added interference.
2. Deliver faster and more unpredictable crosses.
3. Introduce an additional attacking player for increased pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Reduce the number of poles.
2. Allow the goalkeeper to catch with no attackers initially.
3. Start with slower ball deliveries.
