Equipment
- 20x20 yard space
- Soccer balls
Setup
- Area: 20x20 yard area
- Group: 1 player spaced evenly within the area with a ball each
- Equipment: Cones marking the corners of the 20x20 yard area, 1 soccer ball per player
Instructions
- Players step behind the ball, faking with the outside of one foot.
- Execute a stepover and take the ball with the outside of the opposite foot.
- Begin with the stationary ball, performing moves step by step.
- Increase speed as players become more confident.
- Encourage players to incorporate additional ball manipulation techniques.
- Transition to game-like scenarios, focusing on timing and decision-making.
- Repeat using the non-dominant foot after mastering the dominant.
Coaching Points
- Maintain acceleration and balance.
- Keep close control of the ball.
- Use disguise to fool defenders.
- Keep head up to improve spatial awareness.
- Execute the move with proper technique and speed.
- Use slightly bent knees for agility.
- Gradually increase move fluency and speed.
- Build confidence in 1v1 situations.
- Integrate various ball manipulation moves.
- Encourage adaptation to different scenarios.
- Observe progress and refine techniques.
- Use both feet to perform the moves comfortably.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Decrease the practice area to 15x15 yards.
2. Introduce passive defenders to simulate pressure.
3. Combine three or more dribbling moves in sequence.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the practice area to 25x25 yards.
2. Allow players to practice without time constraints.
3. Focus on a single stepover instead of combining moves.
