Equipment, Setup & Instructions
Equipment
  • Soccer balls
  • Cones (for boundaries and gates)
Setup
  1. Area: 35x25 yard area marked with cones
  2. Goals: One gate positioned centrally on each of three sides of the area, used as scoring targets
  3. Team Red: 2 red outfield players start at their gate defending against the attacking team
  4. Team Blue: 2 blue outfield players start at their gate attacking the opposing team's gate
  5. Neutral: 2 black players (resting team) positioned at the third gate awaiting rotation into play
  6. Equipment: Cones marking the four corners and boundary lines of the 35x25 yard area, plus additional cones forming the three gates on three sides of the area
Instructions
  1. Begin with two players from one team attacking the opposing gate while that team defends.
  2. Once an attempt ends, swap roles: the defending team launches a counter-attack.
  3. Rotate to keep fresh teams attacking as each attempt concludes.
  4. Encourage players to drive the ball forward and exploit space until challenged.
  5. Focus on using quick touches, effective communication, and scanning for opportunities.
Coaching Points
  • Use laces for quicker and smoother ball movements.
  • Maintain good body posture and quick strides.
  • Communicate effectively to coordinate plays.
  • Make an early observation of space and defender positions.
  • Execute a good first touch to control the ball and open space.
  • Keep heads up to survey the field.
  • Use few touches to cover ground swiftly.
  • Encourage a positive attitude towards exploiting space.
  • Emphasize the correct choice of technique and skill application.
  • Ensure players understand when to break forward with the ball.
Variations
Make it harder:
1. Reduce space by narrowing the area.
2. Add more defenders to increase pressure.
Make it easier:
1. Increase the size of the playing area.
2. Allow attackers more time in possession before defenders engage.
3. Use larger gates to encourage scoring opportunities.
